San-Souci Palace in northern Haiti is where I fell in love with this beautiful country.
The Sans-Souci Palace was the royal residence of King Henri (Henri Christophe) of Haiti, Queen Marie-Louise and their two daughters. It was the most important of nine palaces built by the king, as well as fifteen châteaux, numerous forts, and sprawling summer homes on his twenty plantations. Construction of the palace started in 1810 and was completed in 1813. Its name translated from French means "carefree."

YOU could be the one to save a Haitian girl with Sickle Cell Anemia: Ethnicity matters

4/30/2013

People ask me all of the time to post their event or promote their business on this blog. It's hard to determine what is appropriate or fair because I am promoting Haiti. However, I am very active in the South Florida community and I will do anything I can help, especially to contribute to helping save someones life. See the flyer below. A 20 year old woman named Lincie needs help and you might be a match. All you have to do is get a simple cheek swab. This is important to us because ETHNICITY MATTERS!!!!! It is more common for a match within ethnicity, so please try to make it to this event if you're in SFL this week. Thank you <3

Palm Beach County To Celebrate Haitian Heritage During The Month Of
May 2013

Several events will take place to
celebrate Haitian Heritage Month again this year in Palm Beach County. The
month-long series of activities will begin on May 1st, at 6:00 PM, with
an Opening Ceremony and Reception at Toussaint L’Ouverture High School for Arts and Social Justice located at 301 S.W. 14th  Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida
33444, featuring the well-known artist  Jean Michel Daudier and Nicole Moreta
Dance Academy at Toussaint  L’Ouverture High School.
This initial event
will be followed by a  number of cultural and academic activities at various
dates and  locations throughout the county.
UPDATE: Here's a video from the opening ceremony/kickoff event!
Haitian Heritage Month commemoration recognizes the valuable contributions made by Haitians to the history of the World. It is a celebration of Haitian history and culture and an opportunity to share this culture with our communities. On May 18, 2013, Haitian flag-raising ceremonies will take place at the Delray Beach City Hall at 10:00 AM.

“Our goal is to build up the self-esteem of all Haitians in our community, share our wonderful history and culture with the communities where we live and highlight our contributions to the history of the world and the neighborhoods where we live,” said Bito David, the initiator of the celebration in Palm Beach County in 2003.

Other Haitian Heritage Month highlights include several cultural and educational events at various Palm Beach County Library branches, a traditional student essay contest sponsored by Gaskov Clergé Foundation, a Photo Exhibit featuring prominent Haitian figures in Florida, a festival at the Delray Beach Tennis Center on May 18 and in Belle Glades, and much more.  Visit

http://www.palmbeachschools.org/pao/creole/MwaEritajAyisyen2013.asp for more details.

The School District of Palm Beach County partners with Palm Beach County Library System and Toussaint L’Ouverture High School for Arts and Social Justice to coordinate these events.

Haitian and Haitian American students represent the largest ethnic minority group from a single country in the School District of Palm Beach County with about 14,000 students. According to community activists, Palm Beach County is home to more than 90,000 Haitians.

Admission to all Haitian Heritage Month events is free and open to the public. A calendar of activities is attached.

This was translated into English via Google translator. The newsletter is put out by the Minister of Tourism in French. I am reposting for your information. I offer access to any and all information that I learn of. Enjoy...

Readers,
We hung a single objective: to propel the destination Haiti in front of the international tourism scene. Progress is visible at this level, and international supermodel, Petra Nemcova, says: "Whenever I come to Haiti, I see the progress they build roads, ... new hotels. ...".

The major international hotels chains settled there actually, we try to create, at the same time, the events capable of attracting good spotlight on us, as this activity skating we support.
Put Haiti on the map of tourist destinations in the world requires the implementation of a whole apparatus. So do not let go of us, none of the focuses of our tourism policy with this program classification of tourist facilities that we have just launched. The Ministry of Tourism is committed to fulfill its role as an accompanist and as a regulator of the tourism industry in Haiti.

We have entered in the prestigious ranking of the World Economic Forum competitiveness index in the tourism sector. And we will henceforth work according to the criteria of this report, so as to get the best seats in the next rankings. The destination Haiti is recognized, it remains only to leave you to conquer ...

Best Western Premier - review

4/4/2013

The Best Western Premier is in the middle of Petionville. It's Haiti's first American brand hotel in a long time. With a spa and beautiful balcony views, it will cost you about $249/night just for the room. We did not stay here, just went to see it and take pictures. We weren't able to get into the rooms because the manager wasn't there, but we were greeted very nicely and given a tour of the property. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! It has an upscale feel, with Haitian art and pictures from around the country! This makes it stand out to me more than the Oasis. This hotel feels like you're in Haiti. I love it!!!!

Tip: This is in a busy downtown area so if you're looking for a quiet getaway, I don't recommend this hotel. Stay here if you want to be in the middle of the action, interact with local or in Haiti on business. We were told the biggest clientele is business people. There's a $50 US/person shuttle available to and from the airport.
