A word from Minister Stephanie Villedrouin

Dear Friends of Haiti,I am delighted to see you again for the second edition of the Newsletter of the Tourism Ministry, dedicated to the events happening in Haiti, the Ministry of Tourism news and all kind of information related to the tourism sector in Haiti .

At the end of the contest launched in March 2012, the Ministry of Tourism has selected a new logo and new slogan that will be used in a communication campaign to put back the country on the regional and global tourism map. As announced, the Ministry has made his choice among the top 50 logos and slogans first 50 who received the most votes on the contest site www.haititourisme.gouv.ht/concours2012

The final choice for the logo is the logo "choublak" from Xavier Delatour. The logo - the word "Haiti" decorated with a hibiscus flower and a sun - evokes the charm of nature and the profound beauty of the country and landscape. As explained Xavier, "this design of the choublak is the evocation of our national flower, which is a beautiful flower and is also known for its medicinal properties. Each of us has seen the hummingbirds feeding them. The hibiscus adorn many houses, streets across the country and is a true symbol of our landscape ".

The slogan that was chosen is "Experience It!" , from Diana Pierre-Louis. This slogan sums up the powerful and intense experience lived by the visitors who discover Haiti for the first time. When the communication campaign will be directed to Francophone, Creole, and Hispanics communities, that slogan will be translated into French by "Vivez l'experience" in Creole "Se la pou'w la !" and in Spanish by "Vive la experiencia ".

The official launch of the new logo and new slogan will take place in Haiti on 1 June, at the Karibe Convention Center, attended by the President of the Republic of Haiti.

Feel free to send us your feedback, comments or suggestions newsletter@haititourisme.gouv.ht

Thank you and happy reading,

- Stephanie Villedrouin, Minister of Tourism of Haiti

My entry for the HHM's FB contest to be crowned Ms. May 18.
I submitted my entry, asked for friends and followers to vote and I won! It felt great to be honored with this title, the first Ms. May 18. I made Haitian history again. It felt great! :) Thank you all who participated, but especially thanks to Ms. Eveline and Mr. Serge. You guys are the best!!!

Prize Package included Hoztage: Stage Play, Whole Foods Market $75 gift card, $75 gift basket from HHM, $10 gift card from Starbucks, $50 gift card from La Belle Tifi online boutique, designer t-shirt from @CLOAK and an I Love Haiti T-shirt from HHM.
On May 18, I got a DM to call Ms. Yvanka Jolicoeur, cabinet member for the Minister of Tourism. I couldn't believe it! They were in Miami and wanted to meet me before I go to Haiti for the ceremony to launch the official logo/slogan. We met at the Haitian Heritage Museum in Miami. It was such an honor and a pleasure to meet them both, as well as Mr. Guy Francois, du Consulat d'Haiti a Miami. What a wonderful day!!!!

Notice her shirt and the bag!

Listen now...My first radio show interview!

One of my very favorite radio shows is through the Color of Hope (www.colorofhope.org) on telelakaytv.com, Tues. and Fri. evenings. This group is doing a wonderful job in educating the public about the needs in Haiti. Since I fully support anything to better Haiti, I made a connection with them and have been in contact with Ed Shakespierre. He is an extremely articulated, educated and open-minded person who I could talk to for hours and hours. I am so happy to have connected with him. Check out the interview he did on "Changing Haiti's image," where I called in and talked about my site!

A few months ago, I kept saying, "I know there's something there with my passion for Haiti and the website," I just don't know what it is! Well, a couple of months ago, I stumbled upon the Minister of Tourism's contest rules about rebranding Haiti. I immediately perked up because putting branding and Haiti in the same sentence for me is extremely exciting...it's what I've been trying to do already! I started brainstorming, came up with a plan, redesigned my logo and applied. Throughout the contest, friends, family, followers, fans, and lovers of my ideas voted for The Real Haiti. I ended up with 500 votes at the very end of the contest, which the top 50 were considered for selection! Thank you AGAIN to everyone who supported this contest!

Last weekend, I saw the logo winner posted on the Minister of Tourisms Facebook page. I screamed out loud because actually, I LOVE the logo that won!!!!! I truly am so happy with which one they chose. Once I opened the note on Facebook to read more, I saw ...

I screamed again! I couldn't believe it. Right after that, I got an alert that @TourismHaiti started following me on Twitter. It all happened so quickly. Was it really me?! I couldn't believe it. After I called Endy and then my mom, it still hadn't hit me yet. It hit me when I saw people using the hashtag #ExperienceHaiti. My heart would not stop smiling. It was really true, really happening.

About a week later, the Minister of Tourism's office called me to congratulate me and invite me to a special ceremony in Haiti for the official launch of the logo and slogan. I would not miss this for the world!!!!!!!! #ExperienceHaiti, here I come!
